The Reform Alliance’s (TRA) Communications Director will promote our organization’s mission and goals. We are looking for top talent at the manager level for our growing nonprofit. Successful team members have experience in implementing strategic communications and public affairs programs and tactics. This position is expected to work independently to help oversee the planning, execution, and management of multiple initiatives. You will be expected to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously, including major projects, drafting memos, pitching stories, building coalitions, working on digital or social campaigns, and helping to develop improvements. Additional responsibilities will include identifying press opportunities and developing content to be disseminated via social media, websites, newsletters, press releases and any other distribution channels. The communications director ensures messaging aligns with key strategies. 

You will work closely with The Reform Alliance management and team members to shape TRA’s image and values, as well as the appropriate methods to communicate them to the public.

The Communications Director will serve to: 

  • Unify and align communications
  • Partner with TRA team and community partners, meeting with them and creating communications plans to mobilize specific audiences
  • Ensure high-quality and highest impact communications are created for both internal and external audiences 

The Communications Director needs to: 

  • Proactively plan and work with the team to support their communications needs
  • Communications Director will be asked to: 
    • Keep social media fresh and engaging
    • Network with other organizations communications teams
    • Collect and tell stories 
    • Photograph events and gatherings
    • Help strategize and plan communications/marketing
    • Own and manage TRA brand/identity 
    • Carry out day-to-day tasks of facilitating communications/marketing
    • Be proficient in writing/editing, graphic design, communication, strategy and multi-tasking

TRA Communications Director Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications 
  • Demonstrated success implementing strategic communications 
  • Experience using digital communications and social media platforms
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and project management skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments while maintaining high quality work product and careful attention to detail 
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain quality, detail, and organization across multiple assignments
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with strong presentation skills 
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, partner organizations, the press, and other audiences
  • Takes initiative, curious, resourceful, and has a strong desire to work hard 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications, Hootsuite, Facebook Business Manager, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube and knows or can quickly learn graphic platforms such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

  • Create, organize, plan, and implement effective communications messages and strategies for TRA, conveying the vision and communications priorities to appropriate audiences 
  • Serve as air-traffic controller, keeping communications requests on time and on budget 
  • Create and implement a strategy for becoming more visible
  • Write and edit communications messages for use in various mediums and audiences 
  • Keep ears open to stories that impact TRA and develop ways to creatively communicate those stories via video, interviews, newsletter, eNews, etc.
